My personal opinion: (this is a forum after all) volume keys should not work when the phone is closed, unless you unlock them. It can be a key sequence or press and hold but it should not be able to just change itself in your pocket. Not sure why only the durable phones implement this....

Ok now I can't use the screen resolution changer app because it requires root permission. I've tried using adb shell pm grant but that doesn't work. I think it says that the app needs to request root. Any advice?

sahmed92 Do you have Magisk installed? If so and you're not getting a root grant prompt, go into magisk, then there is a tab in there to re-allow the app as it may have been denied before.

beginer I should have been more specific....which alternate default apps do you recommend?

Flippy I'd actually like it better if I would be able to control the volume when the phone is closed. If I walk into shul, I don't want to have to flip it open to turn off the ringer. I don't think the concern about accidentally pressing the volume buttons during שמנה עשרה is valid. I keep a ton of stuff in my pocket (mostly phones), and it doesn't happen. (I'm talking from experience of my old phone which had that feature and never went off.) Again, just an opinion.

FliphoneBochur Yeah. But I think the TCL Flip 2 is especially sensitive. I don't know though. Either way is fine for me, as long as I don't need to unlock it.

hyperactiv Gotcha, that took care of it, thanks! Under Magisk -> Settings -> Superuser Access I had it set to ADB only, instead of Apps and ADB.

Biden2020prez Indeed it is especially sensitive, at least from my experience. That was my rational for originally considering it an 'issue'.

When I input the code it asks for a password. Does anyone know it?

Does anyone know a good automatic backup app for this phone, that backs up everything to the cloud (SMS, notes, pictures, videos, contacts, etc.)?

This is great to see this model have these options available!
I've managed to get the neutronscott img installed and the mouse installed and working with the star button.
Is there a good way to map voice access to the messages button? I'm not clear on the button remapping thread if that is supposed to make that work?

I'm using the a4flip voice access and it works from the notification menu but I'm not sure how to get it mapped to the messages key.

Would be great to get that working. Edit. I got the button mapper app to work well enough for now with a long press of a button to start the voice access. It is not quite as smooth as it was on the LG Classic Flip. It seems to start but not stop unless it either times out or is stopped from notifications menu.

Reifam I don't know of any one app that does all of them, but I know how to do all of them. Pictures, videos, and notes could be simply copied off the phone. (Notes are in Internal Storage > Notes in a nice and simple text file.) You could backup contacts with this: FliphoneBochur. You could backup texts with this: FliphoneBochur.
EDIT: I just reread your post and saw that you want something that automatically backs up to the cloud. I don't know of an app that does that.

Reifam GApps magisk module, use all google apps...

                    5 days later

Hi. Thanks to all the people involved in this. I have two T408DLs from Tracfone, one 8GB the other 16GB, currently waiting for them to be eligible for carrier unlock before I try anything. In the meantime I'm doing my research. I used to compile my own Linux kernels 25 years ago, so I'm pretty tech-capable.

I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future, but for now I'm simply wondering whether I should update my T408DLs from KEEZ to KEFH stock firmware. If I do that, will the MTK FASTBOOT/READYTOO trick still work? Is it deep on the chip?

(BTW, I just need Magisk, not the kosher stuff, but I still read the kosher posts, which are full of useful info.)

Thanks again for making this resource available.

                      Reifam

(Edit: That Magisk GApps module is 64-bit, and the T408DL is 32-bit, so it won't work, sorry.)

If you're looking for the Magisk GApps module, it's [Login to see the link]. I think the module zips for Android 11 are [Login to see the link].

The way other GApps work (like on LineageOS), Core should be enough to start, and you can install more stuff from the Play Store as you need them. Look at the bottom of the first linked page.

nospamboz Are you able to direct me to which files I should download? The download link is [Login to see the link] and it doesn't have an option for Android 11 which this phone runs on. Btw would this work even though this phone is Android Go?
                        Thanks
