• Can a magnet on the back cover ruin a flip phone?

  • MMyiLevel 3 - Gold Member

A friend of mine decided to place a circle magnet on the back of the cover from the lg classic flip, so he can have it mounted on the magnet holder in his car.

Now he has placed it on the mount 4-5 times but on the 6th time around when placing the device the entire device just went blank as if someone pulled the battery.
So I tried myself to charge it or swap the batteries but had no luck doing that.
I'm thinking the ribbon cable came off or just a defective phone? Never had an issue before with a magnet.
This specific device was giving issues from the day I took it out of its box, so can possibly be a defective device.
Just curious if it has happened to others as well in the past?

I would take apart the device and check to see if the ribbon cable is still connected, but if I'm going to end up returning it I would rather not open the kishkes of the device.

Hence curious to know if it's a common occurrence when placing a magnet on a flip phone back.

lgexalter1 where did you put the magnet? In the device? Or on the outside cover?

        mine never had an issue

I want to add an issue where I think it was blinking out the screen but it was actually just caught the magnet causing the phone to think it was closed
