Biden2020prez Agree,
Biden2020prez And if you make a mistake.... you bricked a gadget worth tens of thousads of dollars. not worth it.
And potentially cause loss of life....
I'm now going to go back to the topic discussed before Teslas and TAG were brought up. This thread will now have a lot of replying going on.
Biden2020prez I would really appreciate if you would be able to make that happen!
Biden2020prez Just as a side note: In order to restore texts you have to set the app as your default messaging app. On the app it prompts you to change it, but I don't know of a real way to change it back. I figured out on my phone how to change the default messaging app through a hidden menu I found through square home (by accident). Do you know the adb code to change the default messaging app. If you post it on the website, you'll need to include that command. As of now, I can't think of any more notes.
If you know the command, please tell me. I want to add it to my post in uploaded apps.
kolelguy I am not an expert in this field, but based on what I know, Tesla's OS is built on Linux. Like KaiOS, its hard to just "block the browser". It needs a much bigger job than that. If it was as simple as "firewalls and proxies", I doubt TAG would be offering that kind of $$.
lgexalter1 Thanks!
So this app is com.android.cts.smsbackuprestore
And the main messages app (at least on my phone) is com.android.mms
lgexalter1 I heard some devices can be rooted by taking the emmc chip out, connecting it to a linux machine, and adding the su binary, then solder the chip back in.
lgexalter1 Honestly I think that reason about KaiOS is just an excuse. If there was as much development with KaiOS as Android, I think it would be easy peasy because the phone is already so dumb...
lgexalter1 but you need a Linux computer, so first someone needs to teach them how to use that kind of machine. It's not just a button press...
lgexalter1 Isnt kai-OS based on linux? I thought that is where it gets its browser-based problem from...
Flippy It's based off Firefox OS. Browser based means it gets its core features from web-apps. Doesn't necessarily mean the phone is dependant on its browser. Whatever. KaiOS is just a mess. It gives me a headache to think about it. Let's keep Android here and KaiOS to bananahackers. Maskim?
FliphoneBochur Firefox OS is based off Linux. But it seems I may not be correct either way.
Yes I agree, KaiOS is way too much effort for very little reward, At the end of the day you are still left with a really bad phone.
Reifam I agree. For them to do from there, and it's probably the simplest thing because they have access to the code and everything. Anyone on Twitter want to get friendly with Musk? That's probably the way to go.
It's not like they don't have people that ask for it. People have asked for it but not necessarily something Tesla's interested in implementing. They have a teen driver's mode, they're interested in protecting teens from the dangers of the road.... But hard to convince them that they also have to protect them from the Internet, especially when in their eyes only older than [minimum driving age in your state] can drive and not kids.
Flippy yes, firefox os is based off linux, but so is android...
kolelguy the problem with filtering a Tesla and the reason TAG was offering so much money is two fold:
1: the technical know how to play with Tesla’s software is a high bar even for a seasoned developer
2: even with the knowledge (and people I’ve seen mess with the software successfully) it’s against their terms of service and policy such that if you succeed they lock you out of their system void all warranty/repair, block all future updates and in some cases essentially brick your car even if you didn’t.
The only way to successfully filter the Tesla browser without having Tesla do it themselves is either
A: somehow access and change parts of their software without it leading back to Tesla servers (very hard due to the nature of Tesla servers constant communication with their cars for data collection and security
B: change their software, let Tesla find out and lock you out of their severs and if they don’t Brick the car then viola! You’ve successfully forced Tesla to lock you out of their browser!
The problem is you also won’t get Possibly crucial updates and security, it may be illegal, and you probably can’t use their self driving as well as many other functions if your locked out of their servers…
%100 I meant compared to what they usually offer
