chaimzalman They cant officially do that because then they would have to get certified which costs way too much $$$ for a small company, especially when the phones have such a small customer base.

Flippy That is fine with me but they should be clear that the only "reliable" carrier for any of these "new" kosher phones is ONLY T- Mobile at the moment.

chaimzalman I agree that they should be more transparent. Its just very hard for them to sell by saying "it may or may not work". The whole basic phone market is in a very tight place right now....

It's funny to see how they claim that it was created Kosher when they clearly state it's Android 11 (custom) lol

jbriones95 Yes its true. The new thing is "Kosher from the ground up", when they are really all using android.... What could be unique here though, is the hardware. Seems like that might be what makes this special. Time will tell.

[Login to see the link] [Login to see the link] [Login to see the link] Just spoke with Ari, founder of the Mindful phone. He is expecting everything to work well with Verizon and T-mobile for sure. As we imagined, the prototype works with Verizon and T-mobile, but it does not have the certifications yet. He and the team are working on getting everything certified and working with full support with Verizon and T-mobile. AT&T is tougher, but they are hoping it will work as well. I pre-ordered the device and hope to help with some beta testing if they let me 🙂

I think it will be a good phone to test and hopefully it works well for the basic functions they are aiming at.

jbriones95 Great! Cant wait for your review! I really hope they get it certified because this looks exactly like what many of us want.

Verizon's certification at the very least is free. You just have to mail the phone to their testing labs in California who will then perform the tests necessary. I've contemplated doing this for phones on other projects as a thank you to the team.

On the flip side, it is possible to use non-certified phones on Verizon but you'll need to drop the sim into a pre-approved phone, make a call, and then swap it to the intended daily driver. Not ideal by any stretch.

Flippy I've gotten to see the device and it seems to be progressing well 🙂

It will take more resources from the creators, but I think it will be a good first product to launch for them 😃

drbeast Where do you get that info from? Anyone involved in the industry says differently.
As far as non-certified devices, it does work doing the sim swap is really not a big deal, it's the other issues that come along with it that are annoying to deal with... and Verizon reps don't want to talk to you since your IMEI is not officially supported.

jbriones95 Great to hear! Thanks for the update.

Flippy No problem. The screen is really nice IPS based and I am getting more info soon. There are some improvements that I'd like to see, but you know v2 will come eventually and that's when you can narrow it down even further.

Will there be a charge to certify a device?
                              Answer
Verizon does not charge developers for device certification. However, there may costs incurred in completing the testing requirements for OD certification, including costs that may be imposed by Verizon for accessing lab facilities. Costs are determined by the external testing lab and are paid by the device manufacturer or agent who is seeking to obtain approval for the device. Developers are encouraged to use Verizon approved modules to reduce development, testing, and validation cost.
