  • Voice access: Activation button mapping- no option to save setting

(Using a Sonim XP3plus/XP3900) I'm trying to configure a physical activation key in the Voice Access settings. I'm able to open the menu and chose which button I'd like but it won't save. There are two buttons named 'OK' on the screen (corresponding to the upper-right and upper-left selection buttons on the phone), but selecting either one just remaps/selects that button as the tentative option to be mapped as the Voice Access activation key. Similarly, pressing the middle button on the D-Pad just remaps the Voice Access key selection to that button, but it doesn't save the selection. I am unable to find a Save/Enter/OK button that works to save the setting.

I checked Scrcpy but did not get any additional 'hidden' save options or any additional buttons.
As suggested in a previous post regarding this issue, I also tried using the Voice Access app itself to save the selection but it did not recognize any save/enter/ok type command I was able to think of trying.

Can anyone help?

moshe122 Im not sure what your issue is but did you try "show grid", "more squares", and then "touch (number that is over the ok button)" ?

moshe122 Sometimes you can't see it. You can tell voice access to "Touch OK", or you can temporarily make your screen bigger "adb shell wm size 350x500" and to reset it back "adb shell wm size reset"

Hi, where can I find the most recent version of Voice Access? I'm currently using the APK download from the apps4flip page.
          Thank you!

Didn't work, but this is a great idea to have tried.
There doesn't seem to be a 'Save' button anywhere. There are two buttons named 'OK' and I can use the Voice Access to select either one, neither work to save the setting. Both default to selecting the center button of the D-Pad as the activation key but don't save the selection.
Any idea on how to get a save button added to the Voice Settings script?
            Much appreciated!

            Hi,
Didn't work but great suggestion! I successfully resized the screen but there is still no 'save' option.

I downloaded a different (newer?) version from APKMirror, which doesn't have any 'OK' or 'save' buttons, but your idea worked on this version! Would there be any benefit in me deleting and then installing the apps4flip version again to test your suggestion?

(This APKMirror version also doesn't have the issue where it keeps jumping back a screen after starting the Voice Access. I encountered this and saw someone else in the forum had the same issue.)

              APKMirror version (dated 11/30/22): com.google.android.apps.accessibility.voiceaccess_6.0.490326645-78155_minAPI26(armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk

              Thank you!

moshe122 Hmm... I've never seen that issue about jumping back a screen. If this version works for you, its probably fine

Biden2020prez as noted elsewhere on this forum, on some phones this wont work. Voice access will just simulate the hard button tap, and will still have the same issue. This issue seems to only happen on some versions of voice access.

moshe122 Biden2020prez Jump back definitely happens for me also when using Button Mapper to start Voice Access. My workaround is, as soon as pressing key to start Voice Access, I immediately then use a different key code to start something else. Then the new activity starts, and then immediately back-presses to where I want to be...
