darth wow, dude your work has made this phone a great experience, thanks for all the time spent! I actually just deep dived a bit ago for a keyboard and already installed your suggested keyboard. I like it much better than stock, but still no emojis lol. (I haven't read ALL documentation yet, emoji might be in there?)
Once I figure out how to install the mouse, I'll try that for the voice notifications.
I wouldn't know where to begin to get Android Auto working if you can't, lol. I'm at a novice level for android. Normies think I'm a wizard because I can root and install roms, but I am no coder or fixer!
Again, thanks for the work, and the specific input to help me!

smoakeater You can modify app notification permissions, revoking Voice Access's will banish it from your notification screen, and likely same with your music streaming app. It's a bit convoluted to navigate to the android settings not listed in the Flip's default settings menu, I use Button Mapper to get there. Temporarily change the input of some key (eg volume) to Shortcuts > Settings shortcut > App info. Press the remapped button and scroll down to the app whose notifs you want to change. For Voice Access I have just disabled all of its notifications. I don't need em, I can toggle it on and off with the hotkey.

Also, to get to a searchable Android settings that lets you search for any Android setting you want, do the same thing but instead map Shortcuts > Settings shortcut > Location > App level permissions > Touch the magnifying glass with Voice Access or some kind of pointer > viola, settings search box!

Edit: somehow missed that Darth already answered that haha, well now you have two methods

smoakeater For emojis in tt9 click on the 1 key, first click gives you punctuation and after that you get lists of emojis.

Thanks fellas, I appreciate it. I just about have everything done now but the remapping.

        I think these 2 issues were also fixed in KEFH;

UPTHECREAK 2) When trying to add recipients to an open message by typing in a contact, it usually copies over only the contact name without a number making the message not sendable

UPTHECREAK 5) Volume keys work even when the phone is closed risking accidentally turning on the ringer and having the phone ring during shemoneh esrei, Ideally the volume keys should work only to turn on the screen so you can check time/notifications without any effect on the volume

Thanks to you guys I was able to root the device and install Magisk and apps.

Has anyone tested any streaming apps at all? Would love to use that instead of taking up storage space.

Also, has anyone got it working on Xfinity Mobile? They are a Verizon MVNO and I believe Verizon is what the phone is for? Just got the phone last night so sorry for all the questions.

Edit: Also curious to know what apps people are using on here (besides the kosher rom) I am looking to move away from my iphone but do need a couple basics (hopefully signal, email, MFA app at minimum) Thanks!

Does anyone know how to set it so Kt9 is the default in non standard apps like Signal or maps?

hyperactiv So far the apps I have gotten working:

            • Blink (the Amazon webcam thing)
            • Microsoft To-Do (I use it for shopping list)
            • Microsoft Outlook (though voice access or a pointer is required to switch between email and calendar, and calendar is functionally read-only on this UI)
            • Moon+ Reader (heavy customization is possible!)
            • Zepp Life (the mi band app, I exclusively use it for getting notifications on my wrist so can't vouch for how usable the rest of it is)

Partial successes I have found in my experimentation:

            • Zenit launcher (works but hiding apps is paywalled)
            • Tiny desktop (same problem, also it's unclear what icons you have selected)

            Failures:

            • Niagra launcher, Olauncher, Before launcher, and indistractible launcher (all require screen touches and/or scrolling)
            • Google Keep (needs google play)
            • Windows Phone Link (says it's incompatible iirc)
            • Readera (UI takes up most of the screen)

I have many more I have to try, I just took a break from experimenting once I got everything I needed for this phone. 🙂 Also I feeeeeel like I saw someone got Spotify working on this phone but I'm not sure if it was this phone or a different one. (I decided to not use the phone as a music player and I use a dedicated mp3 player instead.)

papermario How well does the Zenit launcher work for you?

Oh it's actually really good - I set it in my settings as my "Right Shortcut" and it works amazing.

              So I have

              • AnimePipe (Anime and YouTube app combined)
              • ES File Explorer
              • F-Droid
              • InnerTune (YouTube Music)
              • Magisk + vMouse
              • OsmAnd (Navigation)
              • RedReader (Simple Reddit App for news / links)
              • Telegram
              • Signal
              • Ultrasonic
              • Termux
              • Weather
              • WireGuard

Really happy with this little device so far. May switch away from YT Music for a local MP3 player or something tho

hyperactiv Oh, putting a second launcher as a hardware button is genius! I'm going to try that and try more launchers that do allow hiding apps. I'm impressed by all the things you got working! I'm being very intentional with what I put on my Flip 2 because I don't want to turn it into basically a scuffed smart phone with the same problems as my smart phone (I'm transitioning into digital minimalism) but I'll probably try some of these.

papermario I agree - I've purposefully avoided social media apps. Reddit is a must for news though for me. Everything else is just how I can text with family like telegram or signal. Once root is achieved on the phone, you can access literally any android feature - only limitation is the screen resolution which I am working on finding a fix for so I can do "better" nav cause right now, it works but it sucks lol

                    UPTHECREAK
Number 2 is certainly fixed. It was something weird regarding imported contacts that did not get recognized by the Messages app.
I was tracking the issue here: [Login to see the link] and could only report it by purchasing a TCL Classic which TCL customer support can actually give support on. Giving them the IMEI of my Tracfone one only led them to tell me to call Tracfone. Tracfone support sucks and doesn't really take proper note & action of software bugs.
However, since the issue occurred on the TCL Classic too, TCL support was interested in the bug and reported it to their developers.
                    woo!

I finally found the setting to schedule DND (I had to search "schedule" instead of "do not disturb" to turn it up for some reason?) but whenever I open the menu it crashes half a second later. 🙁 Anyone had luck with this? Maybe there's a 3rd party app that can do it...

Edit: Found one! ...Sort of. I can't get it to stop the phone from vibrating, only turn off the volume, but better than nothing.

Edit 2: It seems to be requesting ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY permission but 1. I don't know how to grant that in adb and 2. I don't know whether granting it is a good idea anyway

papermario If you have zenit installed, which I believe you do from your other comment, just long press the app and select "app info" then selection permissions and enable all the ones you need. No adb needed.

Looking at the apps features, notification access is likely used for detecting different app notifications to schedule DND. If you only need the app for scheduling based on time you could probably leave it off.

hyperactiv Try Macro Droid, or else we might be able to create a shell script that runs on boot.
